Design Services: Commercial Flooring Group has the experience to have meaningful and impactful collaborative discussion around design. REAL WORLD EXAMPLE
Customer problem….severe moisture problem, limited budget, time and scheduling constraints for the owner and general contractor for renovation of the office space.
The moisture problems for this commercial customer were severe. Typical budgets given the age of the facility and the severity of the moisture transmission problem can range from $3.00-$6.00 per foot depending on the final floor type whether LVT, VCT or carpet. We approached the problem from several points of view including staying within the general contractors budget for the owner, providing a wear surface for the office space that met the staff’s taste and performance need in the office space, and finally meeting condensed scheduling requirements to help the general contractor stay on schedule.
After reviewing the options including expensive and schedule changing shot blasting, remediation of slab contamination from old adhesives, epoxy vapor barrier and self leveling underlayments for LVT, we settled on a carpet tile (Kinetex) from J and J Flooring Group that was specifically made to remain breathable for the slab moisture condition, warrantable for the slab flatness and avoiding self leveling time and expense, meeting the taste and performance needs in the office space, and allowed meeting schedule requirements for the owner all while staying within the budget.
The value of understanding risks associated with every job (in this case moisture transmission, risk to budget and risk to time over-runs on scheduling) along with knowledge of options through in house expertise and great support from our floor products vendors allowed us to quickly and easily meet the requirements for success at every level.
